Haikus Written While Visiting San Diego

A Horse's Eyes

     A horse's brown eyes
 Are quiet, dim, and patient;
Strength sleeps in their gaze.

Cruel Sleeper

How could you sleep, love,
 While I turn unceasingly
 Fluttering empty sheets?

Black River

              The river is black
Whose shore we must reach. Across
        Its dark, dense fogs writhe.

Sun and Earth

          Lonely the Sun sits,
Enthroned in light and splendor;
     By night, the Earth pines.

The Vine

     The lonely young vine
In the cold, nascent autumn
    Stroked the aging elm.
